For obvious reasons do NOT run Exchange 2010 in production. This is a virtual machine, and a virtual environment. I will not be opening ports and the domains used here are mostly fictitious.

Today I attempt to install Exchange 2010 on a VM. No I’m not doing this on real hardware you can go do one.

But First…The Basics

In order to use Exchange 2010, you need archaic Windows Server. So we will grab Server 2008 R2 for this one.

But wait! In order to install 2010, you also need an Active Directory domain. So we will install that first!

BUT WAIT! In order to do ANY of this we’ll need VMware and THAT is a whole adventure on its own. So we will start this article there.
