Alternative title: Make Your Songs Shimmer!!!

Hi there. This is a short guide on how to get a backing part to your lead because Vital doesnt work with FL Studio velocities.

I’m working on a second EP (MORE WILL COME OUT SOON TRUST) and for one song I had one part where the background plays a set of notes that is kind of a call and response. I want Vital to back that part up by copying it so we get a sound with more glitter.

How to do this

You need a second Vital channel. Go to your existing Vital channel and click Clone.

Now copy the notes you want it to echo and paste them into your new track’s piano roll. Remember to align them properly so that it sounds right.

And then turn that channel’s volume down. It’s the rightmost knob out of the two between the Solo buttons and the mixer channel selector. Look at your Hints panel!

This can really improve the sound imo. It adds kind of a shimmery effect.

Before & after

Here is the part I’m working on before:

Yes it does sound pretty good beforehand, but here’s the after:

AFTER.wav

Note I did chop up some of the notes to add a bit of dissonance.

Questions you might have

Q: Should I route this to a different channel?

A: Generally no. These are effectively notes with lower velocities. You should save the mixer space.

(Thats all of them I could think of)
