Hello. Long time no see, I’ve been sulking. Thats neither here nor there though, as I want to show you something cool.

ReactOS is a Windows XP recreation from scratch with completely FOSS code. It has been in the woodwork for about…a quarter of a century. And it is very feature incomplete.

It’s also kinda dead. As of writing this article the last release was in March. So about 8 months ago.

Okay, but you said something about FL Studio?

Yes! That! So I bought FL Studio Signature in the time I’ve been gone. Good software, but thats kinda besides the point.

If you follow me on my new Xitter account you may have seen the screenshots I posted of FL Studio running on ReactOS. I had to use a comically old version (FL 10, 11 bluescreened just installing it) but it works.

Wanna hear something exported on ReactOS? Here goes! It’s really loud, so turn your volume tf down!

harmor.wav

That is a real “recreation” of the startup sound that greets you every time you boot this accursed operating system. I made it in Harmor with the default preset. If I tried to use another preset it would lag to hell and back. So this one had to do.

And because you might ask for receipts:

WTF? Whats the point?

Why not honestly. It was one of the ideas I had while high as hell.

How I did this (incl. steps on getting the file off of the VM without Guest Additions)

Quite simple really! I transferred the FL 10 zipfile I got off of Image-Line’s convenient archive forum to the OS, and just installed it as normal. Extracted the zip, double clicked the installer, clicked through all the steps…and it worked!

It was that easy. Required zero config beyond copying a regkey over so I could reopen my projects lest this thing bluescreen. Very fun.

Now, I had to get harmor.wav off of the VM after exporting it to see if it works, because the multimedia player is broken. I FTP’d it to my VPS (because I have one of those now too) and downloaded the file from my server control panel’s file manager.
